If you ever tried to connect diagnostics cable to your car you’ve seen lots of information hidden from you. Modern cars have more information available on panel while older show very limited data. And this is really frustrating if there is no gas gauge which gives intuition on what is gas usage at the moment. If you are keen to save your gas you definitely need gas gauge meter.

Kurt missed this feature on his car (Scion Xa) and decided to build panel expander using CAN-BUS OBD interface. As base he took Arduino Pro Mini 328 and designed custom CAN-BUS shield to connect to car computer. He made nice enclosure that fits electronics and LCD and looks great behind steering wheel.
