Face recognitions might sound complex and asks for intense calculus if not neural networks. But students from ECE4760 proved that it can be done using 8 bit AVR microcontroller and camera. They captured set of images and then sent to Matlab for processing them – creating eignefaces. These eigenface data and average face data were stored to flash memory connected to AVR microcontroller. After this initial processing system can work alone.
They tested this system as face login system where camera captures face images and computes correlation with stored eigenfaces. The accuracy of system is good enough to put in to use. Initial testing shown that 22 out of 25 were recognized successfully.
