The Gigantic 5x5x5 3D LED Cube!
As we know that LED is a very small electronic component, but it allows the users to create assorted types of magnificent creation and it is totally depends on the creator’s imagination!
Today’s project is about the orientation independent 3D LED display. If you have a closer look on the above figure, this 3D LED display is actually a 5x5x5 cube display and controller board, which interfaces the cube to a Mega32 microcontroller.
You can display a wide range of low-resolution 3D images or animations on the cube. Or, you can use an accelerometer to detect the horizontal or vertical orientation of the cube, so that you can adjust the display and remains upright even you’re turning the cube anyway you want!
You can use the cube to display a message or display a little light show animation.
There’s one important thing you have to pay attention on this project: The controlling of this mega 3D LED display. In order to overcome the problem, you would like to connect the entire up and down columns of LEDs to the same positive terminal and connect all the horizontal levels to the same “ground”. By using this method, you can get out from the mess of running a ton of wires on this 3D LED display!
