The Gigantic 7-Segment LED Display
Most of you here must be very familiar with the 7-segment LED display. However, have you ever get in touch with the gigantic 7-segment LED display, which is sized 12″ digit height?
Honestly, I wasn’t kidding here, as you can see on the above figure that it’s really a 12″ 7-segment LED display. The internal wiring of the 12″ digit 7-segments are being made from 15 x 4 LEDs, where four LEDs in series and fifteen times in parallel.
For your information, each of the segments of the display is an independent piece of molded plastic on a huge and inexpensive circuit board. To be honest, the circuit board is just a mechanical fixture to hold the segments in the right places.
Although it supposed to be a 15 x 4 array of super bright red LEDs, but it turned out to be 15 in series by 4 in parallel. Thank goodness, it runs extremely fine at 100mA, where it takes about 21V across the LED part. In this case, you’ll need to pick a 24V power supply, as the 9V and 12V power supply is totally cannot support the high voltage here!
You can show your piece of work to your family and friends, they will be amazed by this gigantic buddy for sure.
